Suriname currently has no national Coconut Oil factory. The plan is to set up two factories close to a couple of old/neglected coconut plantations: One site in Commewijne and one site in Coronie.
The first 3 years coconuts will import from Guyana and Brazil in addition to locally bought Coconuts from out growers / local producers.
During the first 3 years SuriCoco will focus on training local farmers how to start cultivating a field and growing coconuts. SuriCoco will also grow coconuts on its own land.
SuriCoco will do five things: produce coconut oil, produce side products (like brooms and cups), produce board materials from husk (this is a sustainable innovation project) and provide the Coconut Plantation Expo for Tourism and Investment.
In order to get started 120.000 USD is required for phase 1.
With this we can rent the land for 30 years, hire an oil press, hire workers for transporting and peeling coconuts and the planting and import of coconuts. And we can work for 6 months and sell or export the produced oil.
In order to start producing side products we need an extra 100.000 USD. With this we can hire and instruct people to create side products from coconut shells. And we can start selling and exporting the products.
In order to start producing boards from coconut husk we need an extra 200.000 USD. With this we can hire machines, collaborate in the innovation project at the university and hire and instruct people to operate the machines to produce the boards.
In parallel with the other phases we will open up the plantations for tourists. For this 100.000 USD is needed to build a small restaurant and expo space. This will generate income at the short term and will also generate income for people in the neighborhood of the plantation. And here students also can present their innovative projects and ideas to investors or partners.
Together with other (foreign) parties and people a national coconut expertise center will be started. For this we would need 20.000 USD. With this we can organize a fact-finding mission for Surinamese people, invite people with knowledge from other countries and start up experimental projects.
A Surinamese entrepreneur has written a business plan for SuriCoco for 540.000 USD in 5 phases. He is now looking for an investor or partner to start up the enterprise.

Suriname is a country on the northeastern coast of South America. It's defined by vast swaths of tropical rainforest, Dutch colonial architecture and a melting-pot culture.
On its Atlantic coast is the capital, Paramaribo, where palm gardens grow near Fort Zeelandia, a 17th-century trading post.
Paramaribo is also home to Saint Peter and Paul Basilica, a towering wood cathedral consecrated in 1885. - Source: Wikipedia
